How To Install An E-Bike Conversion Kit ?

If you are bored of your regular bike and want to transform it into something unique, then using an electric bike kit is the best option you can choose. It gives your bike that extra kick it deserves. It will give your bike a motor that will help it run faster and be at par with the winds. Just kidding! They don’t run that fast, but a motor certainly increases the speed you can reach while riding an electric bike.

Moreover, it makes commuting through the city streets very easy. Plus, a ready-to-ride electric bike costs more than a converted electric bike. So, why not just get rid of your laziness and make use of your creative skills in order to make an e-bike for yourself?

This blog will assist you in converting your regular bicycle into an electric bike. Follow the given steps closely and carefully :

STEP 1 :

To convert your Cycle into Electric First you need a Hub motor Conversion kit which may consist of a Hub Motor, Controller, Throttle, Brakes, Pedal Assist Sensor, Display, Battery Pack. Other than this you must keep a few tools like Screwdriver, etc ready in hand.

STEP 2 :

The process of transformation starts with you removing the wheel of your bicycle. The rear wheel will take more time to be removed because of the chain. You may also have to replace your pedal arm if you want to install the pedal-assist system onto your bicycle.

STEP 3 :

If the tire on your old wheel is in a good and usable condition, then you can use that on your new wheel. Otherwise, get a new tire and place it over your new wheel

STEP 4 :

Now it’s the time to install the new wheel on the bicycle. Make sure that you mount the cassette gear while you install the rear wheel. And while you install the disc brakes, be sure to mount the disc on the new wheel hub. Plus, you’ll have to make sure that the cables coming from the electric hub to the rear wheel stay on the left side.

The cables coming from the electric hub and going to the front wheel, should be on the right side. Also, make sure that the chain is placed properly on the rear cassette.

STEP 5 :

Look for a good location to place the controller. It should be in such a place that all the cables from various parts of the bicycle are able to reach it comfortably

STEP 6 :

This step is required only if you want to install a pedal assist system in your to-be electric bike. You will have to start by taking the left pedal off the hub. Notice the lock ring. Take it off and install the sensor in order to tighten the ring back on. After this, place the magnetic ring onto the hub. Screw the pedal back on and make sure that the PAS’s wire goes to the right

STEP 7:

While it is not necessary to install the battery at this point in time, it is necessary to have its mount ready so that you know where the battery will be placed. If it is a bottle-type battery, then it will go where the bottle holder is. For rack-type batteries, you will have to install the rack for holding the battery. Just make sure that you are aware of the position where the battery will be mounted.

STEP 8:

Start this step by installing the display onto the handle bars before installing the brake levers. Remove the old brake levers. After you’ve removed the brake levers, you can install the display system and make the needed connections using the cables. After this, you can install your electronic bike brake levers and make the other needed connections.

STEP 9:

An electric bike conversion kit usually comes with a user manual which contains a range of images showing all the necessary cable connections. Refer to those pictures to make sure that all the connections that you’ve made are accurate

STEP 10:

This is the final step. Check all the connections by running the system. You can do so by doing a power cycle. Once the bike is on, turn the throttle to see whether you are able to turn on the wheel’s electric power. While the wheel’s electric power is on, test the brakes to see if they can cut the power off.

You can test the Pedal Assist System by pedaling to see if the motor starts running. After confirming that everything is running properly, ensure that the cables are well-secured to avoid hazards or accidents. Clean up your place and you’re good to go. Ride away!
